When I initially started WLLC, I knew I would eventually write an entry about how much Plies bothers me. Literally disturbs me. I have never made it through an entire Plies video. But after stopping by What About Our Daughters, where Gina is up in arms about a new Plies-created reality show called “Goonette,” I decided there was no point in waiting. Might as well get him out of the way while I’m thinking about it.
One of the main reasons I dislike him is because he always looks dirty. Like he hasn’t showered or brushed his teeth in a while, and if I watch too many of his videos I may catch something through the screen.
The second reason is that this fool went to a college (University of South Florida) before he started rapping. From his repulsive lyrics, as I mentioned in a previous post, I wouldn’t be able to pinpoint his level of education beyond about fourth grade.
But the biggest reason Plies is on my Go Away, People Who Shouldn’t Reproduce list is because he takes pleasure in making songs out of degrading nicknames for women. I don’t know if he even knows how to call a woman by her real name, or if he just uses phrases like Shawty, Bust it Baby and Goonette until he tires of those and creates new ones.
One of the reasons I was appalled at “Flavor of Love” when it came out was because Flavor Flav couldn’t bother to remember the girls’ names, and therefore decided to rename them himself. That is so degrading – reminiscent of slavery times when the slaves were given new European names.
Anyway, moving on to Plies’ new “Goonette” show:
Plies describes a goonette as a strong independent female hustler who overcomes trials and tribulations with style and grace. Before proceeding to show a little person who strips. See, that’s why you’re on my Go Away list Plies.
He brags about his “innovativeness,” in the Goonette video and proclaims that no one was talking about Bust it Babies or Goonettes before he brought the terms to the national stage. So you’re proud of that? So sad.
Plies’ official Web site states, “Perhaps Plies’ strongest quality is his ability to speak on the ills of his beloved community.” This fool isn’t speaking on anything but Bust it Babies and Goonettes. Plies isn’t rapping about one of the black community’s ills; he is one of the ills.
first off i want to say that I was highly disturbed by the “little woman” dancing. I’m sure she’d call me a hater, but there’s no hate, it just looks like a little kid, with muscles…….I don’t know how you could get any pleasure from that. But to each his own.
Moving on, I’m not a fan of Plies, but I have no problem with what he does. His biggest customers are the women that he calls “bust it babies”. So if they don’t care, I certainly don’t care. I wouldn’t ever want to go out with a “goonette”, but that’s not what I’d be looking at her for in the first place.
As far as nicknames, I don’t see anything wrong with it. I don’t remember peoples names, it’s not just girls, but I deal with women far more than dudes, so it seems like that. The women that I actually like and do other things with besides have sex, I remember their names. I don’t call them by those names, but I know what it is. I don’t know what’s wrong with a nickname though, you call Plies……Plies, and that’s clearly not his name. Should be feel disrespected? Oh no, because he cosigns that. Well on the same token, those women on Flavor of Love allow themselves to be nicknamed……..they waited in line for it.

Ok, you are one of my new favorite bloggers. This post stated my feelings for Plies in a much more constructive way than it sounds in my mind. He needs a bath and a mentor. And Goonette? whatever dude! Up your skills on existing words before you “start putting new words on the map.”
